Immigration reform and border violence

Psst! Border violence has to do with drug lords. Drug lords are fueled by huge profits which are enhanced by the fact that drugs are illegal. Make drugs legal. Regulate drugs. Shine a light on the business and take away the profit motive.

Undocumented workers are a completely different deal. Workers come to the United States to make money and provide a better life for their families. Businesses exploit these workers by providing less pay and poor working conditions. American workers lose out. Unethical businesses win. Some businesses use a legal method to exploit foreign workers and shaft American ones. Check out H1b visas and other ploys. Immigration reform must address a variety of issues such as the following:

• legitimate need for foreign workers that does not under cut American workers
• immigration for humane reasons such as uniting families and providing sanctuary
• reasonable and humane policies for dealing with undocumented immigrants already living in the US
  

Border violence, immigration reform. Not the same thing. Please keep that in mind as you rally. This stupid story marries the two issues. Drug smugglers are not first and foremost undocumented workers. They are ---- drug smugglers.
