McCain and Gramm are delusional
Phil Gramm championed legislation that brought us Enron and the ultimate energy gouging. But for Phil, greed is a virtue best viewed through money colored glasses.
In recent interviews, Mr. Gramm blamed politics for renewed criticism, which extends to his post-Senate career as vice chairman of UBS Securities.Did Phil Gramm ever meet a crony he didn't like?
"For some reason, the left has concluded that my involvement with McCain is very beneficial to McCain, and therefore they should say as many bad things as they can say about me," Mr. Gramm said. "They don't want me working with Sen. McCain to balance the budget because it means cutting their precious programs."
In 1994, Mr. Gramm single-handedly killed a bill that would have required credit bureaus to quickly fix errors on a person's credit report. Mr. Gramm called it a "bad bill" that imposed costs on the credit bureaus.Well, duh. Phil Gramm embodies the worst of the worst for corporate rape of America.
"He was very focused on cost to financial institutions and not very focused on costs suffered by consumers," said Travis Plunkett, legislative director for the Consumer Federation of America.
