Democratic candidate for the State Board of Education may lose Friendswood city council seat

A Friendswood councilwoman might have unknowingly resigned from office last week when she filed for a spot on the state board of education.

Laura Ewing, 55, is seeking the Democratic Party’s nomination for the Texas Board of Education District 7 seat.

Now city officials are questioning if state law requires Ewing, a Friendswood council member since 2003, to resign and if a special election is needed to replace her.
