TDP Files Lawsuit to Ensure Ballot Integrity

Today, the Texas Democratic Party filed a lawsuit in United States District Court challenging Secretary of State Roger Williams’ failure to require electronic voting machines properly record and tabulate votes, particularly straight-ticket votes...On the eSlate machines, when a voter chooses a straight-ticket vote and then continues to select candidates of the same political party to “emphasize” their vote, the machine actually records the vote for that race as a no vote....
In other words, the lazy bastards at Hart Intercivic designed a "toggle switch" (i.e., one click on, next click off, next click on...) instead of adding code that would recognize that the voter was just selecting the same candidate again. And the Texas Secretary of State apparently knew about this flaw and certified the machines anyway. Nueces County uses the eSlate and nowhere in the training for election workers was this mentioned because the Secretary of State kept this information from our Election Administrator, Diana Barrera. I hope Nueces County sues the bastard. How many of you vote straight party, then also click on the candidates as you read through the (sometimes very lengthy) ballot? Wouldn't you have liked to know that doing so voids your vote for that candidate?

I wish we could get a paper trail instead of a vapor trail before the city council elections.

Not enough time. However, one would hope that the county and city would undertake a vigorous voter education campaign to let voters know about this problem before using the eSlate in another election.

The state of Minnesota has a paper trail system that seems to work just fine. Check out the following link: LWVMN. And here's the link to ES&S Automark. Unfortunately, those counties who have bought the eSlate probably don't have the money to now buy something else.
