State Campaigning

From the Austin American Statesman:
Alex Castano, a Republican House candidate in southwestern Travis County, amassed more than $35,000 in credit card debt before three credit card companies took him to court.

Castano, 34, owner of a commercial real estate firm, has touted "state budget discipline" as one of his campaign issues in the District 47 race.
Judge Mike Lynch wonders out loud if the Texas Association of Businesses skirted the line of campaign laws.

State Representative runoff candidate, Mercurio Martinez Jr., seeking to unset Richard Raymand "could be fined up to $10,000 by the Texas Ethics Commission for failing to file his personal financial statement".

Can you spot what wrong with this statement?
Former state Comptroller John Sharp, considered by many to be the state's most formidable Democrat, said Wednesday that he won't endorse a candidate for governor this year.
No endorsement. No Democrat. Of course, he is envolved in that school finance thingy.

And whaaaa?
Five days after NASA administrator Michael Griffin urged a Houston audience to keep U.S. Rep. Tom DeLay in office, a spokesman denied Wednesday that Griffin had made a formal campaign endorsement.
And in keeping with tradition, voter fraud inquiry in Duval County.
