Valley election news

Almost 2000 have voted in Nueces County. Cameron County is turning red? See list of opportunists here:
Cascos, who served as a Democrat on the Commissioners Court with Hinojosa from 1991 to 2002, lost to the incumbent county judge in the Democratic primary in 2002. Now, the three-term county commissioner has declared he would seek to unseat Hinojosa as a Republican.

Others followed.

County Treasurer Eddie Gonzalez soon after reported he would seek re-election but on the Republican ticket.

Gonzalez is seeking his fourth term in office and faces Democrat challenger David Betancourt, a teacher who forfeited his place on the Brownsville City Commission to run for county office.

Corpus Christi’s Rose Vela, who comes from a long line of local Democrats, including former party chairman Manny Vela and ex-mayor Blanca Sanchez Vela, has also en-tered the political ring wearing Republican red.
And while we're on negatives, can you spot the odd headline? 'Candidates say recent political scandals won’t hurt campaigns' Huh?
In Cameron County, politicos from both parties are comparing scandals in a matter of degrees.

Former Sheriff Conrado Cantu’s arrest and conviction on federal racketeering charges in 2005 dealt a blow to the local Democratic Party.

Cantu has become the poster boy for Republicans, hoping to craft an image of scandal-ridden Democrats.

His downfall left a wound that Democrats are still nursing, while trying to downplay the damage and control the bleeding.
...

Besides, the county judge said, Republicans are being rocked by scandal at the state and national levels at a much grander scale “than a little sheriff in South Texas.”

Aren't the Rethugs great deniers of their own larger scandals.
